Sony D-4 Discman + Restored BP3 Battery

Production life of Sony D-4 (D-40 for the European market) was very short, it started and ended in 1988. That same year, exactly the same design with slightly different case was used for D-2 Discman. D-2 stayed in production much longer, in 1990 it had its laser upgraded from KSS-162A to the best one from Sony, KSS-220A. Another’upgrade’, an addition of DBB switch for bass-heads in 1990 transformed D-2 into D-11, D-12, and D-22 Discmans. Unlike D-15 and D-88 from the same era, all these models from Sony do not pretend to be small. Quite the opposite – they are heavy and bulky, as if they want to look like a’real CD player. From the list of D-2/D-4/D-11/D-22, D-4 is probably the most handsome desktop substitute. Thick and beautiful lid with clear window around the edges of spinning CD, powder-baked heavy-metal bottom, illuminated LCD display… Its only glitch is BP-3 rechargeable battery. All BP-3 are dead and dried out by now. Two 6V/300mAh Excell batteries were used for BP-3 rejuvenation for a total of 600mAh. Refreshed battery can be charged by the Discman itself, NiMH cells easily replaceable. Please note that unlike most other Discmans, battery is being charged while D-4 is in Play mode. Do Not charge battery for longer than 4 hours. Do NOT leave AC/DC adapter plugged in overnight with BP-3 inside. I intended this D-4 to be a desktop CD player, so antivibration plate recycled from Sony CPM-203 Car Mount is included. Set includes Sony D-4 Discman, CPM-203P antivibration plate, 9V center-negative adapter, restored BP-3 rechargeable battery, and 3.5mm to RCA line-out interconnect. Plays 80+min CD-R and scratch-test CD without any problems. Discman is fully functional, with two hairline scratches and a few minor nicks at the back of the lid.
