Sony D-10 Discman – Fully restored D-100

Completely restored and re-calibrated Sony D-10 Discman. Includes anti-vibration plate, Sony AC-930 adapter, Sony 3.5mm to RCA interconnect and 6xAA/9V battery pack. D-10 (born 1986) is the younger/slimmer brother to my all-time favorite Sony Discman, D-50 MkII (DOB 1985, aka D-7). These are the only Sony Discmans with belt-drive CD platter, as in famous C. D-10 has the same DAC, PCM55 as its older brother, but unlike D-50 MkII it also has digital filter. D-10 also has the best and the most powerful headphone amplifier found in a Discman: NJM4560 producing 30mWx2 into 30 Ohm! Because of the digital filter and probably because of a better laser mechanism, D-10 sounds more polite, more hi-end than D-7. Does it sound better than The King, D-Z555? – through the headphones it does. I strongly recommend getting 9V Center-Negative!!! Linear Power Supply for the best sound quality, but until then 6xAA battery pack is included for your critical listening sessions. Antivibration plate was recycled from Sony CPM-203 car mount plate, if nothing else it adds skip-protection for when someone decided to jump around you asking for help around the house. Discman was completely disassembled, cleaned, re-lubed and re-calibrated. Bad News – decorative triangle over OPEN button is not the original but was precision-cut from another Sony Discman. Good News – at some point this D-10 was at the official Sony Service Center and received a brand-new laser. KSS-160A from 1986 was substituted for KSS-225A laser which appeared only in 1990. KSS-220/225 is the best laser produced by Sony, right before technology improved and’cheaper’ became synonymous with’better. This D-10 plays 80+min CDs and CD-R without any glitches, passes skip-test CD. Functionally 10/10, cosmetically Excellent but with a custom-cut decorative piece.
