Sony D-T66 Discman. Might be the only D-66 in existence. Boxed Set

Sony D-66 and D-T66 share quite a few similarities with collector’s Discmans’ but somehow fall into the crack of Polycarbonate Body vs. All-metal housing of their older sisters. The only reason someone buys D-66 nowadays would be to scavenge its laser and its spindle motor for D-350 or D-303 beauties. This one was a’pay-day’ from my neighbor for fixing his DCP-102 and DCP-302 Sony players. Little did I know that a simple “Thank You” would have been more than enough! Accepting D-66 as a Restoration Project is NOT something i would recommend to anyone!! A hint: not a single’working’ D-66 had been offered for sale since… The reason: this is the model which got hit the worst with a defective batch of’surface-mount’ electrolytics when they just came out! I have a few D-66 as’organ donors’ and all of them are certifiable DEAD. Acid from defective 100uF SMD electrolytics dissolved the lands, the leads, and the vias (plated thru-holes in its double-sided board) into nothing! Those of us who think that reviving AIWA walkmans or Sony D-90 is irksome, should try D-66 as a’reality check’! To make it short: this might be The Only working Sony D-66 in existence!
